In this exclusive LTK interview, Dr. Kevin Emery, on awakening psychic abilities, discusses how he gave up a corporate life to become a spiritual teacher and medical intuitive. His moniker, Dr. Kevin, exemplifies a down-to-earth personality that reaches around the globe.

Childhood Psychic Awareness

Dr. Kevin was four years old when he had his first psychic experience. "I asked my grandmother if we could play a game. I proceeded to tell her the name of her best childhood friend, how she wore her hair as a child, and then I sang the song they used to sing when they played together."

Dr. Kevin says his grandmother gave him a prophetic warning. "My Grammie sat me down and told me I had a gift from God, and that people would tell me it was wrong or bad or that they didn't believe me, but as long as I remembered it was a gift from God, everything would be okay. To make sure I did not forget what she had told me, she gave me two chocolate doughnuts and my own bowl of sugar!"

His connection with his grandmother continued after her death. He explains, "When I was eight, my grandmother passed away. That night, she appeared at the foot of my bed and told me that she had died, but she would still be there for me as long as I needed her. The next morning, my mother came into my room crying, telling me that my grandmother had passed. I sat up in bed and said, 'Okay, what's for breakfast?' My mother left the room shaking her head. On some level, I knew she thought I didn't understand what happened. And at the same time, I was thinking that Mommy didn't get it that Grammie really hadn't gone anywhere."

The Teenage Years

At the age of 16, Dr. Kevin worked after school at a local bank. It was here that he met Fran, a forty-year-old woman who had a major impact on his life. Fran was the first person, since his grandmother's passing, with whom Dr. Kevin shared his other world experiences.

Destiny Revealed

Dr. Kevin says, "One day, Fran told me I was here to be a worldwide spiritual leader. My first reaction was to laugh, but I didn't want to hurt her feelings."

Torn over this proclamation, he struggled with the idea and says, "I had never been religious. I was raised in a household where there was not even a Bible, and my few brushes with organized religion made me leery."

Later, he told Fran that his future plans didn't include becoming a worldwide spiritual leader, even though it sounded "cool". Dr. Kevin says, "She just laughed at me and told me that as time went on, I would see."

The Invitation That Changed His Life

Fran invited Dr. Kevin to join a group that met on Sundays to discuss metaphysics. He accepted and soon learned how to focus his psychic abilities.

"Fran started giving me books to read," he explains. "I never took time to read them. By that time, I was back in school, had a girlfriend and worked 20 hours a week at the bank." He surprised himself during the meetings when topics from the books came up for discussion. Dr. Kevin says, "I opened my mouth and information just fell out. It seemed to be well received, even when I wasn't sure what I was talking about myself."

Memories of Atlantis

One Sunday, the discussion was about Atlantis, and Dr. Kevin had a very unusual reaction. "It was so intense. I felt such sadness and longing as I described what I was seeing that I was on the verge of tears," he explains. "Without even thinking I asked, 'What was Atlantis?' Fran looked at me and asked if I had read any of the books she'd given to me. I said no. She said 'You're just like Edgar Cayce' (referencing Cayce's ability to sleep with a book under his pillow and have knowledge of the contents - although I assure you that I never slept with any of those books)."

A Corporate Life

Dr. Kevin went on to college and received a BA in Business. Upon graduation, he joined the corporate world and stayed for 12 years until as he says, "I was drawn back in and created the spiritual business I have now".

On a New Path

His fascinating journey had just begun. He says, "In Portsmouth, NH at the annual Market Square Day festival, I was one of several psychics doing readings out of a shop. We were having a slow morning and one of the other readers, a woman I'd never met before, and I decided to trade readings."

In that reading, Dr. Kevin was told of a Native American woman bearing three gifts. The woman doing the reading felt the spirit had been related to him.

"I had a great, great grandmother who was a full-blooded Native American named Mahala," Dr. Kevin explains. "The three things Mahala gave me were a spider's web, a family Bible (symbolizing the passing on to me the family spiritual gifts) and a dream catcher that was also some kind of time shifter that allowed one to go forward or backward in time."

The psychic told Dr. Kevin he was supposed to accept his Native American healing roots. During the same reading, he discovered he would meet his great love and life partner when he turned forty, which was eight years away.

His reaction to this news: "To me, that was completely unacceptable, so I asked what I could do to bring the person in earlier. She intuited a list of things I needed to work on, get through and process. I also needed to open up my psychic channel to jump a couple levels in my personal soul development in order to be where I needed to be for this person to come into my life.”

After that reading, Dr. Kevin engaged in an "intensely crazy, inwardly directed soul cleansing development routine that opened me to having the ability to trance channel."

Discovering a New Talent

The first time Dr. Kevin channeled, he didn't know what was happening. "The first entities to come through were the Native American Council of Grandmothers," he says. "Since that time, I have developed trance channeling relationships with between two and three dozen entities, including Ki, an extraterrestrial, several angels, Wei Chi, the Tibetan shaman who helped develop Reiki 5,000 years ago, Simon Peter and a host of other beings."

Dr. Kevin admits that until he began channeling, he'd witnessed trance channelers and hadn't felt the information was of direct value to the person requesting the reading. In fact, he says, "It had left me somewhat disdainful of the process."

In response to his channeling ability, he says, "I realize that it is just another one of God's jokes on me that I ended up doing it. Sometimes, I think when I leave this body and talk with God about this particular lifetime, God is going to tell me that I have supplied him with more than my share of laughs!"

Dr. Kevin knows the spirit world and offered some helpful advice for anyone with psychic abilities.

Spirits Aren't Necessarily Ascended Beings

LTK: If you could convey a message about the spirit world, what would it be?

Dr. Kevin: There are many things that exist under the heading of the spirit world, but the one thing I always tell people who want me to do mediumship is to remember that just because someone is on the other side does not mean that they are ascended, wise, have all the right answers or are necessarily someone to listen to if they try to tell you how to run your life. The only thing we know for sure is that they are dead.

LTK: You're right, that's something few people realize and it's good advice to keep in mind.

Advice About Exploring Your Abilities

LTK: What advice do you have for someone wanting to go into this field of study?

Dr. Kevin: Intern with someone who has a philosophy that resonates with your own, and is willing to take you into the field to release spirits with them. Learning something in the classroom or by reading a book is one thing, and doing it when the ability of a person's soul to move forward or stay stuck is at risk is quite another. For that, you need hands-on experience. And not from a ghost hunter, but from a ghost healer (someone who helps trapped spirits move on).

Views on Reincarnation

LTK: Can you share your thoughts on reincarnation?

Dr. Kevin: Our souls' journey back to the Divine is a journey of experiences. And we need to acquire a staggering amount of wisdom through those experiences. I believe this can only be achieved through a multitude of lifetimes.
