Finding Out Your Past Life
From LoveToKnow Paranormal
Finding out your past life is an intriguing journey, but it can also be one fraught with unintended consequences. Below are some tips that may help with navigating the process.
The Regression Process
Learning about a past life can be an amazing process. Is it really possible to have lived before, and for the soul to still carry at least some of those burdens into your current incarnation?
At one point, the subject of past lives and past lives stories were the stuff of a skeptic’s dream. However in recent years, this controversial subject has seeped into what Carl Jung termed "the collective unconscious", to the point where even Dr. Brian Weiss, a respected therapist, was featured on Oprah to discuss the topic.
Whether one believes in past lives or not, it’s helpful to understand the process of regression. Much of this process involves being in a dark and/or quiet place where a person can focus on his relaxation and breathing. You can find out more about these exact steps by reviewing the article Past Life Regression.
Consequences of Finding Out Your Past Life
It may seem strange, but there are consequences to finding out your past life. Consider some of the following questions:
- Why do you want to know?
Why do you want to know about a past life? Is it just idle curiosity or is it something more? For instance, is it possible that you are currently feeling unfulfilled in some way and are looking at past lives as a way to find more meaning in your life? If so, there is a danger of living in the past or for the past while missing the day to day excitement of your current life.
- How will this information change your life?
Make no mistake about it, there are consequences to finding out about a past life, although those consequences can vary widely depending on one’s personality.
On one hand, it can bring about a feeling of peacefulness or contentment to know that it’s possible that one’s spirit journeys on. On the other hand, the information learned may cause anxiety or distress depending on one’s temperament. Deciding which group you belong to can ease you through this process.
- How do those around you feel about the process?
Just as important as how you feel about the process is how your loved ones or those closest to you feel about it. Are they troubled, confused or frustrated at the prospect of you exploring further? Or are they supportive, encouraging and hopeful? How will they be affected by you finding out your past life? Are they at all anxious by the possibility of your "change", reach or growth in this matter? On a more positive note, is there any way that they can be involved or helpful in the process?
Religious Implications
While it’s not something that is often discussed, are there any religious implications for you personally as it pertains to the past life debate, and if so, how are you reconciling that conflict? This dilemma is not beyond the realm of possibility; even Edgar Cayce was asked to discuss his past life readings and his personal religious beliefs.
Similarly, are you at all concerned that the concept of "living before" may be at odds with your particular background or dogma? Of course, the question of religion and how it intersects with past lives may not be an area of concern for you, but if it is, is there anything that can help resolve it, for example a religious figure or some books?
Putting It All Together
The issue of finding out about past lives is quite a journey, and as with most internal journeys, it is peppered with questions. Do all of these questions need to be answered? Of course not. These are really more of a guide to help one think about what the potential consequences are at the very start of this process.
However, as you travel this path, and answer some or all of these questions, you may find that the answers are actually quite positive. And if that’s the case, you are that much closer to finding your true north; an exciting development!

Hi Beckie, Many people believe in old souls, which are best defined as souls who have incarnated more times than those termed as young souls, who've had few physical incaranations. Hope that helps.
