Ghost Cams

From LoveToKnow Paranormal

While there are many ghost hunting enthusiasts in the world who would love to visit haunted locations to capture a ghost on camera, many people don't have access to the equipment or location, so they often ghost hunt online using ghost cams.

The Convenience of Web Cams

The evolution of the Internet and broadband, multimedia streaming technology has brought us to a place where anyone, regardless of location, can remotely investigate a haunted site with ghost cams. By plugging into web cams remotely, these armchair investigators are able to log any paranormal activity that takes place and potentially capture a real ghost on camera.

What Are Ghost Cams?

There are two basic types of Internet cameras that capture ghosts. There are public cams where the owner of a particular haunted spot connects a web cam to the Internet and distributes a video stream of that location to the entire world. There are also private cameras that limit the number of investigators with access. The public web cams provide anyone who is connected to the Internet with the ability to point a web browser to that public ghost camera and watch carefully for paranormal activity. These public streams of video are very popular, and over time, a number of visitors have captured very strange activity. Visiting these cameras, you could potentially spot any of the following paranormal activity.

  • Chairs, toys and other objects moving
  • Strange, ghostly apparitions appearing in a few frames
  • Glowing orbs either flashing across the frame or floating in place
  • Electronic voice phenomenon, if audio is enabled on the camera
  • Glowing "mist" of various shapes and sizes

It's sometimes difficult to determine whether the evidence that some visitors capture is proof of real paranormal activity. One thing most investigators agree on is that certain locations really are hot spots for this kind of event. Public ghost cams provide you with the opportunity to see some of that evidence for yourself.

Setting up Private Ghost Cameras

In addition to the few public ghost cams that enthusiasts have set up online, thanks to the same technology, private ghost hunters now have the ability to monitor hot spots for long periods of time. Normally ghost hunters would enter a paranormal location, set up various recording and measuring devices, and then wait for a few hours with the hope of capturing an abnormal event. Unfortunately, the nature of the paranormal is that these events are often intermittent and unpredictable. However, by setting up web cams and monitoring them, these new, high-tech ghost hunters have a greater chance of capturing real ghosts on video.

Web Cam Ghost Hunting Websites

As the popularity of ghost hunting with a web cam grows, more public cameras are being offered at a variety of paranormal websites. The sites below are a sampling of some of the best.

  • The Doll House Cam is a fascinating site with an entire community of followers. The owners, Traci and Tom Watkins of Knight Paranormal Investigations, purchased three allegedly haunted dolls and they've set up a web cam in the area where the dolls are stored. They conduct occasional EVP sessions with the dolls that viewers can watch.
  • The Willard Library is probably one of the most popular online cams where you can watch the Children's Room, the Basement Room or the Research Room for any sign of the ghosts that visitors report spotting every now and then. Don't believe it? Have a look at all of the photo evidence visitors have captured over the years.
  • Anybody There features an entire directory of both popular and obscure cams. These include not only cameras for ghosts, but also one for leprechauns and even one for the Lockness Monster.
  • Ghost Watch provides video feeds from an old linen mill in Ireland that is reported to house the ghost of Helena Blunden, a young lady who fell to her death in 1912.
  • Asylum Cam is one of the most popular web cam sites for ghost hunting, and features over 20 locations where cameras are set up and ready for you to use.

Capture Your Own Ghost Videos

If you have some time and you want to watch for ghosts, just open up a few of these cameras on your computer screen and you'll instantly have your own ghost hunting center from the comfort of your home. Just be ready to capture a screen shot the moment you see a ghost to have your very own evidence that ghosts really do exist.
