Live Ghost Sightings
From LoveToKnow Paranormal
Out of body experiences (OBEs) can potentially create apparitions that result in live ghost sightings.
OBE Apparitions and Live Ghost Sightings
While many people are familiar with ghost sightings of people who have passed away, a segment of the parapsychological scientific community seeks to uncover evidence that the consciousness of people who are living can also generate identical apparitions as sightings of dead ghosts do.
What Is an Out of Body Experience?
An out of body experience is believed to be a separation of a person's consciousness from their body. Near death experiences, where a person's body begins to fail, are reported to induce out of body experiences. When this occurs, people often report watching from the ceiling as surgeons and other medical staff work on their body. Some experiencers even report hearing conversations that are later confirmed; in other cases people at remote locations witness seeing an out of body experiencer's apparition.
How OBEs Can Generate Apparitions
Within the literature for these experiences, the phenomenon has several names including astral projection, near death experiences and out of body experiences. In each case, the experiencer describes feeling a separation of the mind from the physical body. Some experiencers even describe traveling great distances, witnessing remote events and sometimes even seeing future events in the form of a prophecy or ESP. If the process of astral projection transmits a form of energy of our consciousness, researchers believe that this energy could potentially create apparitions that people at those remote locations sometimes witness.
Evidence Linking OBEs to Live Ghost Sightings
The Out of Body Research Foundation publishes anecdotal evidence for OBE phenomenon in the form of witness accounts. Several of these witness accounts are amazing and, if true, represent a great deal of evidence that sightings of live ghosts are real. These stories also suggest that many apparition sightings of people who are still alive could potentially be a result of that person having some form of out of body experience.
The following are anecdotal examples of witness accounts.
- March 9, 2008: A woman from Australia reports seeing an apparition of her husband sitting up in bed, but his solid body lying down and asleep.
- June 23, 2007: The wife of a man from Chile reports how his nighttime OBE visit to a friend convinced the friend that her husband was a "witch type of person."
- February 3, 2007: A woman travels to a tree during an OBE and searches for something to prove to herself the experience was real. She notices broken pieces of a clay pot. The next morning she checks and the clay pieces were there.
- May 13, 2006: A man monitors his daughter at a college cafeteria 400 miles away and makes note of the time on the clock over her head. He "wills" her to call him, and when she does he tells her what she is wearing and even the title of the book she is reading.
- July 10, 2005: A young woman catches her boyfriend with an ex-girlfriend during an out of body experience.
- February 18, 2005: A woman visits her husband at night from another room in the house, as her husband rolls over he sees her entity "disappearing out of the room."
- March 22, 2004: A young man reports two OBE experiences, the first where his mother saw his apparition at the kitchen ceiling, and a second where his girlfriend's entire family confirms seeing his yellow apparition in the hallway of a cabin where they were vacationing.
Scientific Evidence of Out of Body Experiences
If witnesses are reporting truthfully regarding seeing live ghosts of friends and family, the OBE phenomenon could be real. Scientists continue to research both the OBE phenomenon and the NDE (Near Death Experience) phenomenon. The following scientific evidence supports the reality of these experiences.
Dr. Bruce Greyson Verifies NDEs
One scientist who succeeded in documenting an example of an NDE experience is Dr. Bruce Greyson. Dr. Greyson documented a case where a 55-year-old truck driver named Al Sullivan had a near death experience during a triple by-pass surgery. During his experience, he noticed the surgeon making an odd flapping motion with his arms. Upon waking and much to the surgeon's surprise, Al described the motion that turned out to be how the surgeon normally keeps his hands sterile.
Dr. Raymond Moody Documents NDEs
Dr. Raymond Moody is a researcher and writer who documented a number of cases where people involved in NDEs were able to accurately verify items in real life during their experience. Three examples are provided here.
- An elderly blind woman accurately described events surrounding the resuscitation of her body, including the clothes worn by people entering and leaving the room.
- A woman dying from a heart condition visited with her sister in the same hospital who was in a diabetic coma. When the sister with the heart condition was resuscitated, she knew that her sister had just died.
- A young dying girl accurately reported things her older sister said while sitting in a separate room from where the young girl was resuscitated.
Out of Body Experiences and Ghosts
If the overwhelming circumstantial proof surrounding out of body experiences is true, it could be likely that live ghost sightings are a result of these experiences. This could explain most cases where friends and relatives report seeing ghosts of living people in places very remote from where the person lives. In fact, this phenomenon also begs the question of how many reported ghost sightings might actually be apparitions of people who aren't even dead yet?
