The Bell Witch haunting is considered one of America's greatest ghost stories according to paranormal researcher, psychologist Dr. Nandor Fodor. The Bell Witch ghost is probably the most thoroughly documented case of a haunting in existence. There are a mass of written eyewitness accounts and affidavits. The witch's anger was mostly directed toward John Bell, although his daughter, Betsy, sometimes suffered greater physical torture. Even General Andrew Jackson and his troops were witness to the witch's antics. When John died, everyone who attended his funeral heard the witch laugh and sing a drinking song.

UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) and USOs (Unidentified Submerged Objects) have been linked to paranormal activity and other unexplained events such as crop circles. Probably one of the most frightening types of paranormal happenings is that of an alleged possession of a human being by a demon. There are many well-documented cases. The 1973 movie, The Exorcist, was supposedly based on the case of a young boy.

Some believe that the movie itself was responsible for several proclaimed demonic possessions. A panic moved through Europe in the wake of the movie's release. One possible victim of the movie's powerful imagery was 17-year-old Anneliese Michel of Germany. In fact, another movie, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, was based on her story of demonic possession. Anneliese underwent 67 rites of exorcism over a ten-month period. Some of the exorcism sessions lasted up to four hours. Psychiatric medicine wasn't as advanced when Anneliese died in 1975 as it is today, and many people believe that modern psychiatric professionals might have been able to help her.
