Skeleton Hand

The variety of stories and locations is quite diverse, and houses can range from small family dwellings to ancient castles and mansions. There are many websites devoted to such supernatural dwellings, and there is a seemingly endless vat of information about ghosts and hauntings, either online or offline in books, conventions, societies, etc. For those people who might be interested in finding out more about haunted houses, or even looking for information on how to visit an actual locations, there is plenty of information available. There are several examples of famous cases that should whet the appetite of anyone who seeks more paranormal knowledge or experience, as well as for those with a casual interest.

The Amityville House

The Amityville house is probably one of the most famous haunted houses cases of all time. Part of this is due to the massive media attention brought about by the book and movie series that appeared soon after the events allegedly happened.

The story of the Amityville house begins in 1974 with the killing of the DeFeo family at night while they slept. The slayings were carried out by their son, Ronald DeFeo, who claimed to have been possessed by evil spirits that caused him to murder his family so brutally. In 1976, the Lutz family then moved into the house and immediately reported the occurrence of strange phenomena. Incidents included an infestation with house flies in the middle of winter, strange voices, the sense of a presence in the house, moving objects and the increasing personality change of the husband, George Lutz. These activities and more led the family to flee the house after only 28 days on the premises. Today, although the incident itself is largely controversial, the house still has a lot of interest for those who have read the story. The house is not open to the public, and, indeed, the address has been changed to protect subsequent residents, none of whom, it seems, has ever reported anything strange into the house. Locals frustrated by the attention often tell tourists the home has been torn down.

Villisca House

Villisca House is a famous case in Iowa that is based around a gruesome family murder in 1912, where two adults and their three children were murdered in their beds. The killer was never found, and to this day, several incidents have been reported that suggest that the Villisca house is yet another in an extensive list of real life haunted houses.

There have been reports of voices heard in the house, as well as apparitions of ghostly men with axes. The house itself was restored in 1994, and stands now as a monument to those brutal murders of 1912. The house is open to the public for tours where paranormal fans and those of a curious nature can take it upon themselves to judge the veracity of the tales of haunting that are a vital part of the house’s history.

Other Real Life Haunted Houses

There are, of course, many other haunted houses that exist. Some are open to the public, while others are either closed to the public – sometimes they still exist as private residences – or have succumbed to the demands of time and progress.

Some examples of such houses are:

  • Borley Rectory: This is a famous haunted house in England that once bore the title of “Most Haunted House in England”.
  • Hampton Court: This is another famous example in England that also lays claim to a more modern example of haunting in current times when an apparition was filmed on CCTV closing a fire door.
  • Lizzie Borden House: This house is the site of the famous Lizzie Borden ax murders made famous in the children’s nursery rhyme. There have been numerous reports by guests at this house regarding ghostly sightings, strange noises and sounds of a woman weeping. The house is now a bed and breakfast establishment.

There are many more examples of real life haunted houses around the world. It is important for visitors to remember to bring either a healthy dose of skepticism or a strong countenance when exploring these locations.

Thank you for sharing your story with us, Gloria. A ghost drawing energy from you may be something else, too, although you seem to have communicated with these spirits and learned their story. As a footnote, many people do actually see ghosts very much like you would another person while others only sense or feel their presence. Best of luck with your roomful of ghosts. Hopefully, they can resolve the past so they can move on and you can reclaim your bedroom.

Ghosts can be felt but not seen. The ghosts draw on the energy of a human to make their presence known. I had a residual experience with four ghosts who came into bed with me from the ceiling in the middle of the night. I was absolutely drained of all energy and could not move and a male ghost put his hand through me to hug his wife ghost. One came down sitting up, the other hesitated and came down horizontally and then two small ghost children out of nowhere started to bounce on the bed with one hitting me in the gut.

I could feel the weight and size of each ghost and this lasted 3 minutes.

This dark blue bedroom has been given solely to the ghosts and no one sleeps in this room again.

These ghosts stay because they are trying to fix the past as they were force to leave the house during the Depression for back taxes. They were residing in the house for 52 years before they left in 1932.
