Scary Stories for Kids

From LoveToKnow Paranormal

For many years, people have been using scary stories for kids in order to warn children about various dangers. In England, during the middle ages, adults would tell village children stories about werewolves who attack children that wander too close to the forests. Even old scary fairy tales are filled with various lessons for children.

There are all kinds of scary stories for kids.

Using Scary Stories for Kids to Teach Lessons

The following examples are short stories that will present kids with important warnings. See if you can determine the moral of each story.

Bears Like Chocolate Too

One weekend in August, many years ago, a Boy Scout troop from a town in Western Maine went on a weekend camping trip in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. During the bus ride, four friends - Bobby, John, Jake and Chris - all sat together in the back. As the bus approached the campground, the Troop Leader stood up and turned around to face the fifteen boys.

"Okay boys, listen up," the Leader started.

"I want you all to listen carefully to these instructions. I'm only going to state them once." His eyes scanned each of the boys, and then paused purposefully on the four boys at the back, "I am not going to repeat myself."

The Leader cleared his throat and began.

"The campground we are staying at is smack dab in the middle of a natural rock formation from glacial movements millions of years ago. Our campsites are going to be along the Swift River, a fast running brook that travels for miles over soft stones, smooth from years of fast-running water. I expect you to adhere to the Boy Scout Code. We take out what we bring in. We leave the condition of the environment how we found it. And most importantly," he finished as he folded up the paper and slide it into the front pocket of his khaki shorts, "We do not ever, ever leave food in, around or near our tents for the black bears to smell."

During the speech, Jake performed an imitation of the Troop Leader by pulling back his cheeks and his nose, causing the other three boys to stifle their laughter in their hands. All four boys did not hear the Troop Leader's final warning.

After arriving, the Troop stopped at the camp store. Jake bought two packages of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, eating one and pocketing the other. After setting up camp and having supper, everyone crawled into their tents. Jake and Chris shared a two person tent.

"Yo Jake, you awake?" Chris asked.

"Mrrph..." Jake responded.

"Dude, the crickets stopped, and I think I heard something," Chris said as pulled himself out of his sleeping bag.

"Shut up," Jake answered.

At that very moment, a bear claw tore through Jake's side of the tent. A large bear snout appeared through the tear, and then the entire head. The bear grabbed Jake's legs and dragged him out of the tent, kicking and screaming, and ran off into the woods with the boy caught in his jaws.

All of the boys scrambled out of their tents to see what was the matter. After a few moments, they could see Jake running back to the campground, his pants torn completely off. He ran over to the Troop Leader and, sobbing uncontrollably, described how the bear wanted the peanut butter chocolate so bad that he'd torn the jeans right off of Jake's legs with two swipes of his razor sharp claws. Jake didn't even care that he was standing there, half naked in front of his friends. He was just happy to be alive.

Don't Tease the Nerd

In a Midwestern town, at a small middle school, a large seventh grade bully named Thurston relentlessly harassed a small fourth grade kid named Tim. Throughout the school year, Thurston and his two large friends, Uri and Rick, would trip Tim, and steal his lunch money. A few times, they even beat him up. When the teachers would ask Tim how he got the black eye, he would simply drop his head in shame and refuse to say who did it.

The following summer, Tim's older brother, a Peace Corp volunteer who had just returned from a two-year job in South Africa, listened to the stories from his younger brother about the teasing. That summer, Tim's brother taught him how to perform a dangerous voodoo curse that he'd learned in Africa.

The following year, the bully and his two friends approached Tim during recess. As they started to tease him, Tim dropped to his knees, clasped his hands together and started to chant in an unintelligible language. The three boys paused for a moment, before bursting out in laughter. Convinced that little Tim had finally lost his mind, the three boys turned and walked away, laughing about how they'd finally driven him insane.

Over the following few weeks, the school suffered the loss of several students. In one case, while Uri was playing in a basketball game, he tripped while making a lay-up, broke his neck and died on the court. Just a few months later during February vacation, Rick drowned while on a fishing trip with his father. Thurston, terrified by the curse that Tim had put on them, refused to travel or play any sports. However, one day at lunch as he was eating pork chops, he choked on a poorly chewed morsel and died from lack of oxygen.

The school never knew why three of their students passed away so suddenly that year. But little Timmy knew, and he also know that he'd never be teased again.
