Yvette Fielding Most Haunted
From LoveToKnow Paranormal
Yvette Fielding Most Haunted is a British paranormal investigation television show. It airs in the United States on the Travel Channel. The show features noted British actress Yvette Fielding and a variety of psychic mediums and paranormal investigators who travel around Britain, Europe and other places investigating many famous haunted sites.
About the Yvette Fielding Most Haunted Television Show
Many people share an interest in the paranormal, and reality television shows such as Paranormal_State and SciFi_Ghost_Hunters whet the public’s appetite for more shows explaining the unexplainable. From the British Isles comes Most Haunted. Hosted by actress Yvette Fielding, Most Haunted follows a slightly different format than other noted paranormal investigation shows. Fielding is featured on both Most Haunted and Most_Haunted_Live.
Many locations that the Most Haunted team explore are of historic note. For example, the team travels to the recently restored Oxford Castle in Season Ten. The castle dates from 1071 and was used as a prison up until 1996 when it was closed down and restored. It is now open for museum tours. The castle is rumored to be a hot spot for paranormal activity.
Other shows also produced by Yvette Fielding and her husband Karl Beattie include Most Haunted USA and Ghost Adventures.
Reality Television or Drama
The format of Most Haunted differs significantly from some of the other, more popular, paranormal investigation shows such as the Sci Fi Channel’s Ghost Hunters. Unlike Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, the founders of The_Atlantic_Paranormal_Society, Fielding was an actress first and not a paranormal investigator. Yvette Fielding starred in numerous children’s television shows and won awards for being the most popular host of a television show. While investigators such as the plumbers-turned-paranormal investigators of Ghost Hunters, and Ryan Buell of Paranormal State, attempt to collect scientific evidence of paranormal activity, Fielding’s efforts may seem more theatrical than scientific to skeptical viewers.
Most Haunted differs from competing paranormal investigation reality shows in the following ways:
- Investigators explore mostly historic places reputed to be haunted; other teams such as The Atlantic Paranormal Society visit homeowners who claim paranormal activity, as well as famous or historic locations.
- Investigations use physics to add to the evidence gathered during an investigation. While Paranormal State does include mediums, shows such as Ghost Hunters do not.
- Investigations include séances in order to contact the dead. The Most Haunted team focuses on communicating with the spirits of the dead, and they use any method it can in order to make contact.
- The format limits debunking efforts.
- Reports provide rich historical background about the locations.
- Investigations focus on the many famous places around Britain. The team also plans to investigate famous haunted places in the United States, including the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. They recently broadcast a live investigation from Gettysburg Battlefield.
Reviews of Most Haunted
Although some parents are concerned about their children watching shows about paranormal activity, Most Haunted is fairly tame. Common Sense Media, a nonprofit group that reviews media for parents, believes Most Haunted should be for older children, teens and adults. Young children may find the spooky atmosphere, enhanced with night vision cameras, too much to take in.
Criticism of Most Haunted
Critics of the show contend that much of the spooky activity is rigged. Some people claim to have analyzed clips and caught Fielding doing "suspicious" things. Bad Psychics even has a forum dedicated to discussions. There you can find samples of video people use as evidence to prove that the scary bits of Most Haunted are faked. Scenes showing supposed spirit possession have come under the most fire, especially since many viewers have noted the supposed "facts" reported in these scenes, researched them, and found them to be incorrect.
Although critics tend to say this about any paranormal investigation show, even fans of Most Haunted believe that Fielding jumps at every sound, and seems frightened of thin air. Much of the paranormal activity consists of things the viewer cannot participate in and must rely upon Fielding or the team to report, such as feelings of fear, doom or terror, or having clothes tugged by unseen hands. Rarely does the team catch anything resembling scientific evidence.
Taken as entertainment rather than as serious paranormal investigation, Most Haunted is enjoyable for anyone who just loves a good spooky tale.

Hi Tim - thanks for your comments and insight as an investigator. You are correct that being in the experience and having something happen to you can be quite terrifying, even for a seasoned investigator. I think many people expect that someone who's at the level of having their own show should be a very seasoned expert regarding paranormal phenomenon, and less likely to panic or react in fear.
-- Contributed by: RdubeI think people cant understand how scary it is. Judy, I should point that Yvette is braver then early season or didn't you pay attention? People who have a go at Yvette should go on a investigation and YOU see if it's scary. I can't believe people have a go at MH, yet cant be bothered you try it themselves! OK Yvette screams, but shes not as bad then series 1. Series 11 she was braver, so would you if something touches you or breathes in your ear. Wouldn't you be scared, I believe you will I watch the show for the history.
I think as a paranormal show, you have to try different methods, or having the same method is boring.
Now done a investigation, and spending time on my own, I was scared, and nearly ran.
